Furtling....

For the past few weeks, since my holiday in fact, I have been having great fun furtling through boxes and boxes of archives.  Much of this type of material is deposited in archives up and down the country by solicitors, businesses, estate agents etc and sometimes in such great quantities that hard pressed archives staff don't get the chance to catalogue it properly.  So, the only way to find out if there is that treasured item that will solve the riddles posed to us record agents out there, be it family or house/local history, is to have a good furtle through.
Wow, there is some gold just lying there waiting to be discovered.  For this particular task I had to remain focused as the client wanted the results in just under four weeks [this later turned out to be three but that is another story].  My research passion is Tetbury and I have been looking at the records over many years and have also built up a small archive myself, both digital and paper.  When a client asks for research into their property in Tetbury and I get a chance to go through some of these boxes of materials held at my local archives in Gloucestershire you can possibly imagine my delight at being able to accept the project.  But you can probably also understand my frustration at having to be totally focused on the project in hand and not get side tracked into the many other treasures I came across on my way.
So, when opportunity arises you know where you will find me - down at Gloucestershire Archives having a furtle through their boxes!
